Reiki Defined
Reiki is a form of energy healing that can help alleviate physical, emotional, mental and spiritual stress. It is a way to ‘tune-up’ your energy to it’s healthiest state allowing for healing to take place. Reiki is a gentle and safe healing practice that is geared towards removing any energy blocks in our system caused by emotional, mental or physical stress and pain. During a Reiki Session a practitioner places his or her hands on the client with the intention of the Reiki Energy to flow. This Reiki energy, also known as the Universal Life Force Energy, is not the practitioner's energy. It is a divinely guided energy that knows exactly where the blocks are and pushes them out as well as fills up the energy gas tanks wherever you are low in energy. And because Reiki does not use the practitioner's energy it is safe for both the practitioner as well as the Reiki recipient. You do not run the risk of absorbing the practitioner's energy and vice versa. During a session a person may feel heat, tingling or cooling sensations as blocks are removed. Most all clients get to a deep state of peace and relaxation during a session.

Reiki Philosophy
Reiki philosophy is based on the body's ability to heal itself naturally once energy blocks are removed. Reiki is not tied to any religion or a particular spiritual belief system and can never cause harm.

Reiki Helps to Achieve Complete Wellness
More and more people are seeking complementary, alternative healing methods to achieve complete wellness. Some medical practices only treat the symptoms and never fully address the initial cause of the problem or fail to look beyond the physical to address the mental or emotional state of the patient. Reiki can help you achieve complete wellness by addressing the physical, mental and emotional issues that can be holding you back from achieving perfect health of mind, body and spirit.

Practices Similar to Reiki
Reiki is similar in nature to other energy practices like Qigong and Tai Chi which helps to unblock and re-establish a healthy flow of energy throughout the body. Unlike these practices, Reiki taps into the Universal Life Force Energy whereas Tai Chi and Qigong require a build up of your own energy or Chi. Reiki is like acupuncture without the needles - the idea being that if you remove energy blocks and allow for the natural flow of Chi then the body is heals itself. It is also similar to the Chiropractic where the philosophy is that if the spine is in alignment the body can more readily heal itself. Like Chiropractic, if your energy is in alignment, the body is better able to maintain health and overall well-being.

Reiki Sessions
During a Reiki session, the client lies down or is seated fully clothed. The practitioner next places her hands on or above the body and allows the REIKI to radiate from the hands.

Learning Reiki
Reiki is learned through a process called an attunement where a Reiki Master adjusts the student's chakras enabling them to become channels for the Universal Life Force Energy. Once this attunement takes place the student has the ability to channel Reiki for the rest of their lives. Anyone can learn Reiki and begin healing themselves and others after just one class. There are three levels of Reiki and each build on each other helping you gain a deeper understanding and insight into the Reiki healing process.

Reiki is Growing
According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, nearly 2 out of 3 U.S. adults used some form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) within the past 12 months of the 2002 study. Over half believed that alternative medicine would be beneficial in combination with conventional medicine and a staggering 28% believed that conventional medicine would not be able to help them. Using the U.S. 2012 Census Survey, that equates to over 41 million U.S. adults that are seeking alternative health methods because they have lost faith with conventional medicine. That equates to nearly 1 out of every 5 adults in the United States. The International Center for Reiki Training estimates that there are over 4,000,000 people that have been initiated into Reiki with well over 1,000,000 Reiki Masters worldwide.

Reiki Origins
The form of Reiki that I practice comes from the Usui System of Natural Healing created by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1920s. Reiki has a very colorful history from it's journey originating in Japan to the United States in the late 1930s. Because of the tensions between Japan and the United States at the start of World War II, a lot of 'mishistory' has been told and retold over the years about Reiki's origin. Reiki.org is still uncovering new facts even to this day about where Reiki truly originated. I talk extensively about Reiki's origin and history during my Reiki I classes.
